FAQ
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height. It is usually written as width:height, such as 16:9 or 4:3.
Divide width by height to get the decimal ratio, then reduce both numbers by their greatest common divisor to get the simplified ratio.
16:9 is the most common modern ratio for video, laptops, TVs, presentation decks, and web embeds.
1920 x 1080 simplifies to 16:9, the standard widescreen video format.
Keep one side fixed and calculate the other side from the ratio. If the width changes, multiply it by height divided by width from the original ratio.
Use 16:9 for standard YouTube videos. Shorts and mobile-first vertical video use 9:16.
16:9 is wider and better for modern displays. 4:3 is more compact and still appears in slides, retro content, and certain camera outputs.
Use the modern `aspect-ratio` property or the classic padding-top technique, where padding-top equals height divided by width times 100%.

Aspect Ratio Calculator is a free aspect ratio calculator built for distributed creative and product teams that need fast answers without opening a spreadsheet. Whether you are planning a video aspect ratio workflow, checking a social media image size guide, or validating a responsive media shell, the goal is the same: get to the correct ratio and final size in one pass.
The toolset covers a batch ratio converter for content operations, an image crop preview toolfor ecommerce and editorial teams, a responsive CSS aspect ratio generatorfor frontend developers, and a screen resolution finderfor QA engineers and designers reviewing breakpoints.
Because the site serves global workflows rather than one city, the guidance is written for remote teams shipping assets across the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. That includes photographers preparing 4x6 prints in 3:2, growth teams exporting 4:5 feed assets, and editors building 9:16 vertical video for Shorts and Reels.
Start with the calculator when you know one dimension, open the use-case guides when the destination is still fuzzy, and move into the advanced tools when you need crop planning, CSS output, or batch export support.
